Screening guidelines

Screening initiation, interval, and cessation

It is recommended that individuals of average risk 50 to 74 years of age complete an FOBT every 2 years. ColonCheck invites individuals 50 to 74 years of age as they are most likely to benefit from FOBT screening. 94% of colorectal cancer occurs in individuals 50 years of age and over.

fobtDecisions to screen individuals younger than 50 or over 74 years of age should be made on an individual basis, based on patient symptoms, risk factors including family history, and comorbidities. We recommend these individuals discuss the risks and benefits of screening with their health care provider.

See ColonCheck Screening Guidelines (pdf) for the management of patients who are average risk, above average risk and symptomatic.
